Kamaole Beaches

We'd been enjoying snorkeling so much that we decided to go back to some of our favorite spots. We first headed to Ulua/Mokapu beach, but found that the waves were too choppy for us to safely snorkel without being swept towards the rocks and coral. We then tried Ahihi Bay again. This time at Ahihi we all spotted moray eels, but unfortunately our snorkeling was cut short when it began to rain and the visibility went way down.

Back in Kihei we snorkelled for a while at Kamaole II , the beach right in front of the condo. Again, the visibility wasn't great, but we had film to use up and who's complaining if you can walk out your front door onto a snorkeling beach? In the afternoon I went back to the library to take some pictures for my library friends in Victoria.

Would you like fiction with that? Feature Film Collection - huge! Sign reads : Shirt and Footwear Required (it's Hawai'i, after all). Hawai'ian artefacts in the display case.

After the library we explored more of Kihei, including the local market. Here we found vendors selling Hawai'ian artwork and fresh fruits and vegetables, and we treated ourselves to some very tasty pineapple. When we got back to the condo, I took the time to grab a few photos of the flowers in the condo gardens.

Hawai'i's state flower, the yellow hibiscus.

Ginger. The sweet-smelling plumeria (these are the flowers I used to make the leis on Page Two. Unidentified orange flower.

I then went down to the beach for a bit of alone time on our last night. The sun was just setting and the sky was beautiful. Near Ma'alea it was raining and sailboats were silhouetted against a glowing pink mist.

For dinner, we went to the nearby Greek Bistro where we had some fabulous food and even better drinks. We tried a Blue Hawaiian, a Lava Flow, and a Mai Tai before staggering home giggling like schoolgirls. What a fantastic way to spend our last evening in paradise.

The last day,
